Bring your Discord server into SphereOne.

Add a bot that can only view channels and read their history, and SphereOne brings your text channels and threads over with replies, reactions, pins and attachments.

What comes over from Discord

Text channels and their threads, with replies, reactions, pins and attachments.

  • Text channels and their threads
  • Replies, reactions and pins
  • Attachments
  • People, matched by name, with every match shown for you to check

Add the import bot to your server

Discord has no export file for servers, so SphereOne reads through a bot you create and add yourself.

  1. Open the Discord Developer Portal (discord.com/developers/applications) and click New Application. Name it, for example “SphereOne import”, and create it.
  2. Open Bot. Click Reset Token, then Copy, and keep it for the last step. Discord shows it only once.
  3. On the same page, under Privileged Gateway Intents, turn on Server Members Intent and Message Content Intent, then Save Changes.
  4. Open OAuth2 and go to the OAuth2 URL Generator. Tick the bot scope, then under Bot Permissions tick View Channels and Read Message History.
  5. Copy the Generated URL, open it in your browser, choose your server and click Authorize.
  6. In SphereOne, open Settings › Migration, choose Discord, paste the bot token and click Connect bot. Then pick the channels to bring over.

Good to know

  • You need the Manage Server permission in Discord to add the bot.
  • The bot only needs View Channels and Read Message History.

How the import works

For workspace admins on Starter, Business and Enterprise. On a free trial you can upload an export and see the full preview; running the import needs a paid plan.

  • Nothing is written until an admin confirms
  • Set a cut-off date for the day you switch
  • Any import can be undone

Preview first

SphereOne reads the export and shows you the rooms, people and message counts. Nothing is written yet.

Decide people and rooms

Link each person to a member, invite them, keep their name only or leave them out. Create each room fresh, merge it into one you have, or skip it.

Import in the background

Start it when you are ready. It runs in the background, can be paused, and duplicates are skipped when you merge.

Undo if you need to

Undo removes only what the import created. Anything your team has posted since stays where it is.

Questions about importing from Discord

Why does SphereOne need a Discord bot?

Discord has no export file for servers. A bot that can view channels and read their history lets SphereOne read your text channels and threads.

What permissions does the bot need?

View Channels and Read Message History, with the Server Members and Message Content intents turned on in the Developer Portal.

Do voice channels come over?

No. SphereOne brings text channels and their threads, with replies, reactions, pins and attachments.

How are Discord members matched to our team?

By name, because Discord doesn't share members' email addresses. Name matches are flagged in the preview so you can check them. In the preview you decide for each person: link them to a member, invite them now, keep their name only, or leave them out.

Importing from somewhere else?

SphereOne imports from 7 apps. See every import guide.
