Bring your Telegram groups into SphereOne.

Export each group from Telegram Desktop and upload it. The messages come over with their replies, reactions, photos, files and voice messages.

What comes over from Telegram

Groups and chats with replies, reactions, photos, files and voice messages.

  • Groups and chats, one export each
  • Replies and reactions
  • Photos, files and voice messages, when you include them in the export
  • Channel posts, as messages from the channel
  • People, matched by name, with every match shown for you to check

Export from Telegram Desktop

Telegram exports one chat at a time, and only from its desktop app. Export each group you want, then add them all to one import.

  1. Open Telegram Desktop on a computer (from desktop.telegram.org) and sign in.
  2. Open the group, click ⋮ at the top right and choose Export chat history.
  3. Tick what to keep, such as Photos, Files and Voice messages, and raise the size limit if you need to.
  4. For the format, choose Machine-readable JSON, then click Export.
  5. Zip the folder it saves and upload the ZIP in SphereOne under Settings › Migration › Telegram. Without media, the result.json file inside is enough on its own.

Good to know

  • The phone apps and Telegram Web cannot export chats — it has to be Telegram Desktop.

How the import works

For workspace admins on Starter, Business and Enterprise. On a free trial you can upload an export and see the full preview; running the import needs a paid plan.

  • Nothing is written until an admin confirms
  • Set a cut-off date for the day you switch
  • Any import can be undone

Preview first

SphereOne reads the export and shows you the rooms, people and message counts. Nothing is written yet.

Decide people and rooms

Link each person to a member, invite them, keep their name only or leave them out. Create each room fresh, merge it into one you have, or skip it.

Import in the background

Start it when you are ready. It runs in the background, can be paused, and duplicates are skipped when you merge.

Undo if you need to

Undo removes only what the import created. Anything your team has posted since stays where it is.

Questions about importing from Telegram

Can I export Telegram chats from my phone?

No. Telegram's phone apps and Telegram Web can't export chats. Use Telegram Desktop on a computer.

Which export format should I choose?

Machine-readable JSON. Zip the folder Telegram saves and upload the ZIP; without media, the result.json file alone is enough.

How are Telegram members matched to our team?

By name, because Telegram exports don't include email addresses. Name matches are flagged in the preview so you can check them. In the preview you decide for each person: link them to a member, invite them now, keep their name only, or leave them out.

Do Telegram channel posts come over?

Yes. Posts from a Telegram channel come over as messages from the channel.

Importing from somewhere else?
